Although the government guidance evolves on a daily basis, the current advice is to stay at home unless it is necessary to leave home. This, of course, is impacting the way that we work with our clients. We have, however, introduced new and efficient ways of working that we will continue long after the pandemic.
As you may know, we cannot act for you unless we are satisfied as to your identity and, as a matter of law and professional conduct, we have to be able to produce documentary evidence of the steps taken to satisfy ourselves. Historically, we would have done this by asking clients to bring their ID documents to a meeting, at which time we would have taken copies. It is, therefore, a challenge faced by all solicitors that we should not meet with you to verify your original identity documents. To overcome this difficulty, we are now using Thirdfort, which is an app-based ID verification product that offers fast and secure document scanning and facial recognition checks, from the comfort of your own home via your smartphone. Thirdfort provides a simple, secure and fast way of onboarding with your solicitor and we are delighted to be offering this to new clients.
We are also conducting meetings by telephone and by video communications platforms, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams. We are able to take your instructions and provide you with advice, without ever requiring you to attend a face-to-face meeting at our premises. This has been necessary over the last twelve months but we expect that this has become the “new norm” and will continue to be a preferred method of “meeting” for many of our busy clients. We will still provide you with the service that you expect from us, but in a manner that is most convenient for you.
